I'll tell you a story... On my first day in my current company I printed something on network printed and went across the corridor to pick it up. By the time I showed up some other guy from neighboring cube came up to the printer. He was wearing an old t-shirt and shorts. I was shocked a bit first, but then one of colleagues kindly explained that this is the kind of home-like environment you usually see in Software Companies. They are infamous for being informal and not requiring anything even close to suit and tie (most of them at least)... :-)
As far as the work environment itself goes.... :-)
